I attended college at Union University, a small Southern Baptist school in TN, and while I was there my ears were opened even wider to the Christian music industry. Coming from the small and very liberal state of Vermont, Christian music isn’t really the talk of the town so beyond the latest praise songs, I never really followed many specific singers/groups. Ever since hearing the song “More Than You’ll Ever Know” by Watermark in college as a soundtrack to our sorority video, I was blown away. I couldn’t get enough of their music…their voices melded so well together and they wrote such simple yet profound songs. I still haven’t accepted that they aren’t making new music and hope that one day they will return!

I’ll admit that i don’t spend my days always thinking about how God is speaking to me through people or situations, but I do often find myself singing songs in my head repeatedly throughout the day, and wonder why that specific song is in my head. Lately, I’ve had one of my favorite Watermark songs, “A Grateful People/Bless the Lord” on repeat in my mind. It’s so simple, so true, and reminds me to be more grateful of the things I have because without Him…I have nothing.

It is time that we give you honor
This is the day to give you
All the praise that you deserve
Yes, it’s time to give you honor
This is the day to give you
All the praise that you deserve
A Holy King, of everything
Inhabit the praises of Your people
A Holy King, of everything
Inhabit the praises of Your people

Have we waited far too long to surrender
Forgive us Oh God the years
We failed to seek your face
Oh Lord, your mercy turns us into
Grateful people
We can’t seem to find the words
So take our lives that there might be enough
To tell you how grateful
Lord, we are grateful

Bless the Lord, oh my soul
(He has done great things)
And all that is within me
(He had done great things)
Bless His holy name
